In this remote region of the country, coffee is far more than a crop. It is an essential part of everyday life for hundreds of families who depend on it for their livelihoods. During the \u003cstrong data-start=\"410\" data-end=\"451\"\u003e2025 harvest, 742 smallholder farmers\u003c\/strong\u003e delivered their cherries to this washing station.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"503\" data-end=\"973\"\u003eNinga was built in \u003cstrong data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"530\"\u003e2019\u003c\/strong\u003e, about \u003cstrong data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"587\"\u003e10km from the Bukeye Washing Station\u003c\/strong\u003e, after it became clear that many farmers in the area were traveling long distances to reach washing stations with fair scales and transparent payment systems. Located at around \u003cstrong data-start=\"765\" data-end=\"797\"\u003e1900masl \u003c\/strong\u003eand surrounded by the \u003cstrong data-start=\"820\" data-end=\"837\"\u003eNkokoma River\u003c\/strong\u003e, the station allows local farmers to process their coffee closer to home, strengthening the local economy while improving traceability.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"975\" data-end=\"1418\"\u003eThe region itself is extremely remote. Reaching \u003cstrong data-start=\"1023\" data-end=\"1036\"\u003eGiku Hill\u003c\/strong\u003e requires traveling more than \u003cstrong data-start=\"1066\" data-end=\"1097\"\u003e15km of dirt roads\u003c\/strong\u003e, crossing rivers, and passing through provincial borders. Although small rivers run through the landscape, access to clean drinking water and electricity remains limited for many communities. Even so, the hills are covered with coffee trees growing along narrow paths, farmland, and the mud-brick homes of local farmers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"1420\" data-end=\"1811\"\u003eOver the years, periods of conflict in the country sometimes forced farmers to temporarily abandon their land. When they returned, their coffee trees were still there, waiting. Slowly, they rebuilt their farms and communities. Despite this complex history, the hills around Ninga have consistently produced \u003cstrong data-start=\"1727\" data-end=\"1758\"\u003eelegant and complex coffees\u003c\/strong\u003e, known for their clarity and structured cup profile.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"1813\" data-end=\"2077\"\u003eCoffee trees in this area are mainly \u003cstrong data-start=\"1850\" data-end=\"1861\"\u003eBourbon\u003c\/strong\u003e, typically grown around \u003cstrong data-start=\"1886\" data-end=\"1918\"\u003e1700masl\u003c\/strong\u003e, and processed at the washing station using several methods.
